Kona Secrets: Lessons learned from over 50 Kona Qualifications.
Knowledge doesn’t produce results, action does. Just knowing how to do something doesn’t guarantee success, especially something as difficult as qualifying for Kona; you have to put in the hours. In this book I share some of the lessons I learnt between being a back-of-the-pack beginner to qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
Trek Madone SLR 9 Disc
Starting at the top because that’s the one we all desire is the Madone SLR 9 Disc. Available in several semi standard options as well as a full custom build on their Project One system the Madone SLR 9 Disc features Trek’s top of the line OCLV carbon fibre frameset, Shimano Dura Ace Di2 electronic shifting and hydraulic brakes, Bontrager’s new Aeolus XXX 6 wheels, full carbon saddle, integrated cockpit.
Trek’s Madone ranges are also available in what is called Project One Now options. These offer some of the P1 custom paint jobs as a standard upgrade option. The colours included are Viper Red/Trek White, Radioactive Yellow/Trek Black and the wild new Matte Dnister Black/Gloss Sunburst.
The SLR 9 Disc runs Shimano Dura Ace drive and hydraulic disc brakes.
White or amber wall tyres are making a bit of a comeback this year.
The wheels on the Madone SLR 9 Disc are the new top of the range Aeolus XXX 6 TLR Carbon Clincher Disc model.

Ultegra 8000 series drivetrain and hydraulic brakes provide the stop and go.
Bontrager provide the wheels and tyres. Aeolus 5 Pro TLR full carbon disc clinchers
The 2019 Madone SL 6 is essentially a carryover model from the 2018 Madone 9.0. Featuring the same frame, fork, Ultegra 8000 groupset and Bontrager Aeolus 5 Comp wheel set and finish kit. The only real change is in the paint. The matte black has gone to gloss.
