Rob’s Blog Easy Week

This week is due to be an easy/recovery week focusing on swimming. Last weekend we found a very good deal in Kinnity castle in Birr which made us think we should get a couple more days in on the bike before switching to the easy/swim week. 150k there on Monday, nice meal, relax, big breakfast and 150k back. Sounds great, I got a new bike that would take panniers and the added weight should be good training. We arrived Monday evening and did a short run off the bike and later during dinner we decided to take an extra day and head back on Wednesday instead. That meant we added in another days riding to bring the total to almost 390k in the 3 days.
We took Thursday off and got into the pool on Friday for an easy swim. I only lasted 30 minutes before getting out, I just couldn’t get myself going. Ais knocked out over 3000m in just over an hour to show me that I was a bit soft….
The evenings run ended in a trip to the doctor, Ais fell while running downhill and cut her face, hands and knees. She is out of the pool for best part of a week I reckon and running and biking are also out because of the knees.
I swam on Saturday and Sunday mornings doing over 3000m each time. Monday was another day off and this morning it feels like I’ve dropped of the training schedule completely, I’m heading for another swim and am having the – will I won’t I – argument in my head about a run later on.
It’s only a couple of days to go to the half ironman so I should get back in gear, the new bike needs to be test ridden before the weekend and if I don’t do some decent sessions I’ll be well rested but probably very sluggish.

If you want to follow the numbers more closely I’m on Strava as Rob Cummins Wheelworx or if you’re more of a pictures instead of reading type I post on Instagram as wheelworxrob.
