Gear of the Day: Kettlebell

Kettlebells, you will have a hate/love relationship with them. They’re an excellent training piece to increase strength, endurance, agility and balance, but you will feel it after a workout, at least at the start. Using up to 600 muscles including those in your arms, shoulders and core stabilisers, to maintain balance because the centre of mass is offset from the handle, kettlebells provide a full body workout. If you are looking for strength gain, the heavier kettlebells are the way to go, lighter ones can be used if you wish to focus on your cardiovascular system. With the weight being much less static, they can be more challenging than other weights you would use while training. The results you can get are very impressive, but be warned you will have to work for them! Also we have strength and conditioning classes if you aren’t sure where to start or if you need someone to help push you, contact us info@wheelworx.ie for information on classes.
