In late 2017 Bontrager launched the first of it’s more affordable full carbon clincher wheelsets, the Aeolus Pro 3 TLR, a 30mm deep full carbon clincher. The newest model in the line up features a 50mm deep rim offering improved aerodynamics and speed is the Aeolus Pro 5 TLR.  It is available in both rim brake and disc brake variants and is tubeless ready (TLR)
The new wheels take their aerodynamic shape from their much more expensive stablemates and in doing so offer the same speed and stability but at a much more affordable price than the top of the range model.
The Aeolus Pro 5 TLR has no rider weight limit and is recommended for use on gravel and cyclo cross as well as road bikes so strength and durability is not an issue.

The all-new lineup offers better aerodynamic performance, better braking, and better stability for road, gravel, and cyclocross. Bontrager tested over 10,000 rim shapes to identify the three depths that would lead the industry in speed, stability, and weight while building on the ride feel that riders have come to expect from Aeolus.

All depths are available in clincher and tubular versions for both rim and disc brakes:
    • Aeolus XXX 2 features a 28mm depth. It’s the lightweight climber that’s strong enough for cyclocross and gravel riding.
    • Aeolus XXX 4 features a 47mm depth for do-it-all workhorse performance. It’s the most versatile option for everyday aero performance.
    • Aeolus XXX 6 features a 60mm depth for speed with unmatched stability that brings an ultra-aero wheel to more riders and conditions.
Key features of the new lineup:

    • All-new shapes optimised for each depth and intended use. The result is that classic Aeolus ride quality with best-in-class aerodynamics and stability.
    • Laser Control Track massively improves braking performance for stopping power that exceeds that of alloy rims, even in wet conditions. Approved for use with Black Prince brake pads only.
    • A wider 21mm internal rim width provides great support for today’s wider tyres, and TLR strips are included for easy conversion to tubeless.
    • Reliable, smooth-rolling DT-Swiss hub internals with 36-point star ratchets laced with DT-Swiss Aerolite spokes.
    • Laser-etched graphics provide a clean look without additional weight.
    • All Aeolus XXX wheels are designed and manufactured at Trek’s Global Headquarters in Waterloo, WI.
    • Aeolus XXX wheels will be available on Project One starting in early April.
    • Carbon Care Loyalty programme allows customers to buy with confidence and easily replace wheels that are damaged outside of warranty.
